Farm Gate Trail Fever

One of the region’s most popular tourist attractions, the Farm Gate Trail, has been revitalised. Six new producers and farm gates have joined the trail, and all 15 producers are open & ready for visitors.

The launch was held at Byramine Homestead on Wednesday evening and consisted of a variety of market stalls where over 100 guests met the producers of the Farm Gate Trail and tasted their fare.

TV personality & chef Peter Russell Clarke visited the region to launch the new brochure. Peter said “the cooperative marketing efforts of the group is very impressive. I’ve been working with a number of food groups around Australia trying to get them to move in a similar direction…I’ve got a few ideas and I’ll be working on some recipes for the website now”.

The trail is made up of a group of producers who provide their product direct from its source – the farm. It is not a designated route, but rather an opportunity for visitors to tour the region and know they will be able to visit a number of unique farm providers. Each farm gate offers a completely different experience - all are working farms and the owners are heavily involved in all stages of harvest, production and sales. Many are iconic characters with great stories to tell.

Six new producers have joined the trail – Cape Horn Vineyard, Byramine Homestead, Daisy Cow Soap, Australian Native Farm Forestry Nursery, Warrabilla Wines and Renaissance Chocolates.

Executive Officer Tourism, Merran Socha, said that “it is great to see so many new businesses coming on board, and also to see the current businesses so enthusiastic about continuing with the trail. With such a wide variety of produce in the region, visitors can easily find something to suit their tastes”.

Visitors touring the farm gate trail can pick up cheese, liqueur, strawberries, vegetables, almonds, honey, jam, olives and olive oil, dukkah, wine, native plants, chocolate, cacti and natural soap and skin care products.

Sun Country on the Murray Chair Gary Hunt said that “the participation of all the producers and the continuation of the farm gate trail brochure is vital to ensure that tourism in our region remains sustainable”.
