History of Water Skiing on Lake Mulwala

High powered ski boats appeared as the new sport of water skiing became popular in the 1950s.

Lake Mulwala became a mecca for water skiers after Bert Foster returned from a trip to Cypress Gardens, Florida and almost single handedly established Lake Mulwala as a major water skiing destination.

Together with his wife Flo and other local water skiing champions, waterskiing grew
in popularity both as a sport and leisure activity for families. Bert and Flo Foster built
the famous Cypress Gardens Motel/Boatel in the late 1950s that further enhanced
Yarrawonga-Mulwala as the place to be for water sports.

Cypress Gardens quickly became a mecca for water skiers who wanted to stay overlooking the water with their boats moored nearby in the harbour.

Today this is the site of Capri Waters.
